Door Jamb Scratches Removal

Postby Mark6gti » Thu Jan 12, 2017 1:28 pm

Hi Gents,

My name is Mark, i'm 26 and I reside in George, WC

I am the proud new owner of a 2010 Mk6 Gti in white with a manual gearbox and only 76000km on the clock.
The car is in a good condition, but I wanted to start a "series" of my improvements.

It is booked for a full exterior paint correction and detail next week, so I wanted to start on the interior of the car. The first thing I noticed was how bad the door jambs were scratced and that's where I will begin.

Products used:

2000 grit sandpaper
Meguiars Scratch X 2.0
Microfiber towels
Lots of elbow grease

I have never done anything like this so it was a bit nerve-racking!

After wet sanding:

Final result:

I must say I am very pleased with how it turned out.
Even the deep scratches that caught my fingernail are gone, and there is no sign that I went through the clearcoat.

I will post the complete interior detail as soon as my order is in with Crazy Detailer and the work is done.

Thanks for reading!

Good job bud   looks good :salut:

Word of advise for future, let sanding be your LAST option bud, your car only has so much of clear coat and sanding especially without a paint reader(for measurement of the paint) is not really a good combo.

When removing marring/scratch's......etc always use least harsh polish and work your way to a more aggressive polish for the removal of the defects(and by the looks of the pics im sure a good hand polish would of removed those on the pillars :thumb: ).

When paint is polished (ALWAYS seal the paint with a good sealant/wax going forward) to maintain that part.
